Social media jobs are available in iGaming today
There are different types of social media opportunities in the igaming sector. Firstly, there are regulated markets – such as the UK – where companies need to have a license and follow specific laws to operate. In these markets, companies like Google, facebook and Twitter allow paid advertising campaigns, once a company has been able to demonstrate that it has a license. In these regulated markets, the kind of free social media marketing – such as posting cool and fun content – is also allowed. This means that both operators and affiliates are very active on many social media channels and therefore need staff to execute.
Some companies just do social media better than others. A great example is PaddyPower, whose blog and social feeds must be written by professional comedians, there is just no way that normal humans can be that funny. Other companies take a much more conservative approach and only post solid corporate information. In between these two extremes sits most social profiles, that post offers, interact with players and generally try to be a fun and lighthearted way to find and keep people interested and to get their content shared to a wider audience.
There are often tie-ins with other forms of digital marketing, such as graphic design, content creation, CRM and SEO, that make social media an interesting role to learn more from.
While this kind of work can be done with little or no experience, most companies try to find staff who have at least worked in igaming before, because there is a lower requirement to teach them the basics of the sector.
Live play is a growing part of the sector
There are both self employed and employed people building communities and followings for their live play on platforms like YouTube, Periscope and Twitch. Twitch has become a popular and under the radar channel for affiliates to generate big monthly profits.

How does Twitch work?
Slots – for example – are played with a live feed while the player chats to viewers and interacts, both with their community and the game. On the screen below the live feed will be affiliate links, in the hope that some viewers will sign up and play too.
Within igaming there are a few people operating as affiliates that have started to earn massive commissions by doing this which has made everyone else start to pay attention. There are now both operators and affiliate firms employing people (usually pretty girls) to play and build communities to try and replicate this success for their company. It might prove to be a fad, but through 2018 and into 2019 it was a growing area of online marketing for igaming businesses.
Social media roles are at the lower end of the igaming salary range, with numbers in the range of the upper 20’s and lower 30 thousands of euros per year for a Social Media Executive. As a career progresses upwards towards the role of Manager and then Head of Social, annual incomes increase substantially. However, there is a lot of skill required to be good at running paid social media campaigns (it’s similar to a normal PPC campaign, just harder!) and so salaries in 2019 are more likely to range between €35,000 and as high as €50,000 per year.
Skilled marketers are in demand in Malta, especially people that speak English fluently as a second or third language, but also speak another European language. Here at MaltaStar, we work in the igaming sector too and know our way around.
