Tom Cruise has hit back at critics of his new film - and confirmed he is not making a Top Gun 2 movie.

"Listen we've gotten some spectacular reviews," Cruise said, when we asked him what he thought of the bad press.

"Also, I think that when audiences see the film, they're excited about it and really going for it. It's just a lot of fun."

In fairness to Cruise, he still exudes that old-school Hollywood charm, and Knight & Day will definitely make its money back thanks to his worldwide fame.

But the relative decline in his blockbuster appeal during the past few years is probably the reason we are now hearing he is returning to his past.

Mission Impossible 4 is in the works, but is there really any truth in the rumours a Top Gun sequel is on its way?

"No," Cruise laughs, without hesitation. "Sorry man."

Cruise's Knight & Day co-star Cameron Diaz says he has genuine love for movies.

"He goes the entire way, it's amazing," beamed Diaz.

"He's so great at that and he genuinely loves doing it. I've taken a lot of lessons from him, but I don't have that ability to carve the ocean like he does," she said.

But does he look as good as her in a dress?

"No this is true, I guess it's a trade off," laughs Diaz.
